Sig Sauer just released the X-Macro Comp, the latest evolution of the P365 series. It’s a gun that threatens to redefine an entire category of pistols.
We can agree there are tradeoffs with smaller guns — you typically gain concealability for the features or functionality you lose. But what if you didn’t have to sacrifice?
This was the question motivating Sig’s newest pistol. We got an early peak and really tested the gun out. So follow along as we look at the specs, features, pros and cons to help you decide if this upgrade is worth it.

Background
When Sig Sauer produced the P365 back in 2018, the gun dominated the concealed carry market for quite a while, racking up awards and selling like hotcakes through 2019. Not wanting to rest on their laurels, Sig evolved the platform.
The P365XL soon followed, increasing capacity to 12+1 with a flush-fitting magazine and adding a flat trigger. The SAS and P365X also trailed with even more features and options.
Most recently, a .380 version and the Spectre Comp, an integrally compensated version of the P365, were released. This created a series of footprints fans and competitors could have used to predict the company’s next move.
The X-Macro Comp is a culmination of all the upgrades.
Who Is It For?
This gun is a concealed carry king. While the increased grip makes it a little harder to conceal, the overall size is surprising when compared to its capacity.
The X-Macro Comp is still well within the category for size, and its design makes it easy to operate despite its small nature.
Anyone wanting an optics-ready, 9mm, concealed carry gun that shoots well, has reduced muzzle flip, and incredible capacity? No need to look further.
Fit & Feel
I very much appreciated the extra grip length on the X-Macro Com. It gave my fingers more than enough room to establish a solid grip, especially from concealment. The grip texture is fairly aggressive.
In addition, the newest P365 uses interchangeable back straps that can be swapped out for better fit on different-sized hands. The gun is still thin at just over an inch wide.
The ergonomics are very accommodating. The beavertail is deep enough to cover my 2X hand nicely, and the forward angle of the flat trigger means I can still get on it with just the tip of my finger.
I loved the forward and rear serrations that have become a staple on this gun, it’s made to do work. The updated optics mounting system is also a plus since you don’t lose the rear sight when you plug in a red dot.
The XRAY 3-night sights were a nice touch though they were somewhat ineffectual with the Romeo Zero Elite installed. With the red dot, the gun pointed naturally and transitioned well between targets.
The Romeo Zero Elite was installed before we competed out at the Sig Sauer Academy. The 2 MOA dot combined with the 32 MOA ring proved outstanding during the courses.
I especially liked it for running the plate rack as the ring perfectly encircled each plate.
The dot worked great during competition!
At home, it was a slightly different story. Sig’s Romeo Zero Elite on the model I received stopped working for an unknown reason before I took it to the range. A battery swap did not resolve the issue.
The magazines are longer than you’d expect and come with a high vis, orange follower. They lock in and drop cleanly. Worth mentioning that occasionally it would hang up on the meaty part of my hand when I would hit the release.
This is a big hand problem and not the gun’s fault.
The trigger is similar to previous models in that it has a flat bow with a slight lip at the end for indexing.
Pulling it back, there’s a few millimeters of travel before you reach a wall, which then breaks crisply at around 3 pounds. Reset is almost immediate.
How Does It Shoot?
This gun is a great little shooter. It almost feels like a hybrid of sorts, performing not like a pocket gun but more like a full-sized pistol.
In several of the competition courses we ran, targets had a two or three-hit requirement. Shooting for time, everyone moved through as quickly as possible.
This gave us all ample opportunity to see how the heavyweight P365 ran under pressure. The Romeo Zero Elite got me quickly onto target, and the integral comp helped me get back on quickly after I’d fired my shots.
I had zero malfunctions. After a few reloads, I noticed some nice beveling on the inside of the magwell. Because of the long narrow nature of both magazine and magwell, you need a solid initial alignment before slamming them into seat.
What Sets it Apart?
This is a concealed carry option for people who want a lot more from their guns. Not only do you get a plus-sized micro compact that’s optics-ready, but it’s compensated and holds 17+1 rounds.
By The Numbers
Reliability: 5/5
Round counts varied for the different guns we shot at the range day and competition but are likely in excess of the 1,000 mark. I had zero malfunctions even with continued testing once I got the X-Macro Comp home.
Ergonomics: 4/5
The addition of adjustable backstraps should help shooters find that sweet spot to fit their hands. Otherwise, the controls were well placed and easy to reach and operate.
Accuracy: 4/5
This is a 3.1-inch barrel, but at the distances I fired from, I hit where I aimed. I believe the assistance of the Romeo Zero helped with this, as did the trigger.
Customization: 5/5
Sig’s dropping of proprietary fitments like the accessory rail and rear sight included optics plate greatly increases the number of customization shooters can apply to this gun.
Value: 4/5
Sig indicates the pricing for the X-Macro Comp should be as low as $799. And they’ve been working hard to create inventory in advance of the release. This isn’t a cheap pocket gun but a top-end concealed carrier with a lot of features.

Upgrades for X-Macro Comp
Sig has opened up the ability to customize your own experience with the X-Macro Comp. The optic mount no longer sacrifices the rear sight, while the inclusion of a 1913 accessory rail widens the possibilities.
There’s pretty significant aftermarket support out there for the P365 series, and many of the parts will fit on the X-Macro. Obviously, magazines will be limited to 17 or greater due to the longer grip.
I was able to test out the Foxtrot2 weapon light and found it to be a perfect companion for this setup.
Running on a CR123 battery, the unit puts out 580 lumens and 13,000 candela, making it a great option for low-light defense.

Field Strip
Very similar to all the other P365 models in terms of field strip and reassembly. But we made a quick no-BS video for it still.
Final Verdict
Each time Sig comes out with another significant upgrade, I am duly impressed for a long time. With a slight increase in length, they gained several extra rounds in capacity.
The addition of the compensator, a concept proven from the Spectre Comp model, was a cherry on top. The X-Macro Comp is an outstanding pistol, a sum greater than its parts.
In many ways, Sig Sauer has been leading and innovating the concealed carry market, and they’ve defiantly dropped another gauntlet with this new gun.

I love my X-Macro, carry it with a DeSantis leather holster. It did take a little breaking in of the holster which is made specifically for the X-Macro. So, I took a sweat sock put the gun in it and then stuffed it all into the holster and left it that way over a weekend. Now it fits snugly and can draw it without any issues.
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the X-Macro have a 3.7" barrel, not a 3.1" ? I have a P365 and a P365X, both have a 3.1" . The XL and the X-Macro both have the 3.7".
I have read several articles about the X-Macro and about half of them state a 3.1".
I believe the X Macro with the compensator has a 3.1” barrel to accommodate the compensator and the version without the compensator has the 3.7” barrel. I have the X Macro without the compensator and the barrel is 3.7”.
OK, now that makes sense.

Barrel is 3.1" on the Macro.
The slide has the comp cuts, and is longer (XL long) than the 3.1" barrel. Thus, nothing is attached to the barrel.

Thank you for your article. It actually taught me a few things. I did not know about it. I purchased this so that I could teach my wife and my son how to correctly use a pistol. That being said, I would like to add a manual safety I have found a few online, but was wondering if you had a recommendation thank you.
I’m late to the party, just saw one for the first time yesterday. The ole G19 is going on the auction block and def picking one of these up. Sig has knocked it put of the park with this. This feels like it is worth the price.
The Sig Romeo Zero sight is just that: a zero. Mine wouldn't ever sight in properly and even after a return to Sig to be fixed, it did exactly the same thing. The selector button location on top means that my average-size fingers put prints on the plastic and interfere with viewing the reticle. In the end, I put iron sights on my P365XL and it now performs properly and is my EDC. I'm a Sig fan and have many models. So, I was very dissapointed.

I really don't understand why this product wasn't a P365 XL-Macro Comp other than they thought introducing it with a 3.7 inch barrel might cannibalize some of their Spectre Comp sales. The extra .6 inch length would not have any appreciable effect on concealability and I sure like how my XL performs over the P365.

Just ordered one, after reading and watching the reviews I decided I had to get one. Should be super easy to carry since I have been carrying a Canik tp9sfx. The compensator sold me on the Sig. Really looking forward to improving my follow up shot speed.

Would you prefer the p365x over the macro for more conceivability? Is the 17 rounds worth the extra imprint? What are your thoughts?
That's a great question Mike, I think it really depends. I'll likely switch to the Macro because it's a better draw for me despite the concealability issues. It's only marginally larger and with the right holster/clothing, would be worth it.
I like a lot about this gun but the missing thumb safety concerns me.
Andy, I get that. When I first started shooting pistols seriously it was because I had become a reserve deputy. At the time, I carried a Beretta 92FS and the thumb safety was life. Over the years, I tried different guns and ended up moving away from the safety selector. Sure, it requires more trigger discipline, and it's only marginally faster with practice, but you can safely own and carry them after you get used to it. Now, it's my preference.
My macro will be in Tuesday 8-16

Some thoughts... 1) I had bought a Zev P365XL and the slide is similar to the X-Macro... specifically the optic plate moves forward so the rear sight remains. What a lot of people are going to find out the hard way is many holsters that fit the P365 or P365X/XL won't fit this. I ordered and returned probably 15 holsters including good ones from Desantis, etc. Almost none would accept the Zev with the optic being more forward. They all fit if I went with iron sights vs the optic. 2) these should come with suppressor height sites. I have a RomeoZero on my Zev P365XL. The rear sights are essentially useless (as you noted for the Macro). The good news is the Zev slide has the same size sight cuts as the stock Sig slides so switching to higher sights is easy. 3) I've seen from a review and some posts on Reddit that the 17 round mags will fit the P365XL. But they need an adaptor. As soon as someone makes one I see a lot of people skipping the Macro and just buying the 17 round mags for spares or the range since many carry a 12 round now and 15's as extras (will also be interesting to see if Mag Guts comes out with a way to make this 18/19/20 rounds). 4) For those that are okay with 12/15 round capacity and prefer the smaller footprint, just the slide on the Macro would be nice if it fit the P365/X/XL. 5) My last thought is this reminds me of the G42/G43 releases. We all wanted the G43 but we settled for the G42 and bought upgrades and accessories, then we all got pissed off and sold our 42s to get 43s. I'm all for innovation, but this reeks of the same. This is the gun we wanted after the P365 but instead we got the SAS/X/XL/Spectre, etc. Personally I'm good with what I have in my Zev and I don't need to lose muzzle velocity in trade for a compensator, but that's just me.
A. Davis, these are great points. 1. Totally right. Sig sent along some holsters from Blackpoint Tactical that were designed for this setup. 2. Maybe. If people want to run it slicktop for concealment, they'd be better off having the lower height sights. However, co-witness with a red dot installed would only be achieved with taller sights. 3. I jammed a X-Macro mag in a Specter Comp and it snapped in just fine--locked back when I pulled the slide too. That's not a feeding/firing test, but pretty sure they're compatible. I'll test this again soon. 4. Yep! All hail modularity! 5. The sales machine is similar to a merry-go-round sometimes, I always understand when the "new new" comes out and people politely decline another trip.

What is the measurement of your hand from heel of the palm where it joins the wrist to the end of your middle finger?
I want to get an idea of how well this would fit into my hand before I spend time wanting to go find one (if i can) at our local sig firearms gun shop or seriously think about ordering one.
John, our goal is being a source of information to this community and we stand by that. Not weird at all but thanks for the warning. That distance for me is right at 8 inches, and the width of my palm is about 4 inches. I typically wear a 2X glove. The X-Macro fits me well but for the occasional hang up of the magazine on the bottom of my palm. Hope that helps.

I thought that "modularity" was a big thing at Sig. Why don't they sell a new grip frame and magazines? Every minor "upgrade" is meant to generate sales.
PM, I'm no business major but I suspect they do that to collect on the initial sales generated from the new model (like ever-evolving iPhone models) and then go back and sell the individual components later to check that modularity box.
Love my Sig P365XL but really wish Sig would come out with a magazine that doesn't rust for these guns.
According to Sig, I possess extremely corrosive perspiration that causes the mags to rust when touching my skin .
I put a coat of oil before and after carrying these magazines but it makes no difference. Be nice to have them made in a stainless steel option.

The rust is quite extensive but only on the side that contacts my skin. I carry two spare magazines in a Milt Sparks shark skin mag holder.
I totally believe you, just haven't heard of it. Have you tried any aftermarket magazines? I'd hope with the collective knowledge of the world at our fingertips, we could find a solution.

It is certainly in that category now with the capacity, but much thinner than a traditional subcompact. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Did you have any trouble with the slide failing to lock back at the end of the magazine? I've had that problem with the Sig 365 and the 365 XL
Not once Joe, and it's a common problem for me with other polymer guns. It's a combination of hand size, grip, and slide release placement.

How.does.it stack up vs the m18/320. Physical size
Hey Arthur, the 320 is 7.2 inches long and the X-Comp is 6.6. The 320 is also 1.6 inches wide whereas the X-Comp is only 1.1. Height is closer with 5.5 and 5.2 respectively. Weight is 28.1 versus 21.5 ounces.

Thanks Winslow, I can't deny how fun it is to shoot. Most platforms this small are a bit snappy. It's just simple physics. When you tuck a 9mm boom into a smaller, polymer frame, it's going to jump around. The comp really helps this out quite a bit.
This sounds like the perfect carry from sig. Will definitely need to check it out.
Teresa, it is really the best of both worlds. The only caution I'd offer is checking it out for concealability. With a slightly longer handle, you'll have to address that in your holster, mode of dress, but I think it's totally worth it.

I have a p365xl. I might buy a couple of 17 rd. Mags. I love the one I have with the pre installed red dot.
Don't think 17 round Macro mags will fir the XL. However, I'm sure the XL-Macro is coming in the next year. pare this gun with a 3.7 inch barrel and you'll have a winer.
They fit. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to retool something and lose all that compatibility.
